Hello. I lived in Tokunoshima Japan for 10 years and taught English, dance and yoga there. My family moved back to the U.S. in July 2012. My husband is Japanese and I have 2 boys ages 13 and 15. I enjoy teaching English and communicating in Japanese.
英語以外に話せる言語: 日本語 (日常会話)
I’m an adventurous person and curious about life...which eventually brought me to Japan. Before discovering my passion for Japanese cultural traditions I was working as a teacher with disabled students in Torrance schools. I lived in Japan from 2006-2013. I became interested in the Japanese idea of ‘do’ (suffix) as in kado, chado, shodo, judo etc. The way of transforming action into art. Teaching gives me the opportunity to watch students grow and gain more confidence. It is rewarding to support and encourage people to maximize their potential so they can become the speakers they want to be. While developing new skills it is important torelax, have a sense of humor, and be patient with yourself. Practice and determination can make dreams come true.
My name is Collette and I have been teaching ESL for 3 years; 2 years in the United States and 1 year in the People’s Republic of China where my students were children ages 5-13 and adults. I enjoy teaching both children and adults. I graduated from the University of San Francisco and have spent most of my life in California. I enjoy movies, computer games and most of all people. I have chosen ESL because I truly believe that if you find a job you love you will never work another day in your life. So, if you see me at BYB I am there having a GREAT TIME because I am doing something I LOVE.

Originally from a Silicon Valley town of Los Gatos, CA I spent five years in Japan teaching at the Ministry of Finance (National Tax Agency), Japan Development Bank, Nomura Research and Securities, Asahi Chemical, Bridgestone, Hoya Lens, Furukawa Group, etc.
In the US I have worked for General Electric, State Farm, AAA, and Hugo Boss.
I love to teach and to see all students make a rapid progress in a short amount of time. My goal as an instructor at BYB English Center is to have them speak like a native speaker and have fun doing it.
I love film photography. I currently own a Leica M3, an M4, and a Minolta CLE. I'm also a big fan of F1. I reside in Rolling Hills Estates with my wife, who works for NTT America. We have a son who is a live music audio engineer. My favorite places to visit are Kyoto, Japan and Vienna, Austria. Welcome to America!!!
My background is in User Experience Design and Development, a field at the crossroads of rich media design and information science, where the goal is to facilitate seamless interaction between people and machines—like BYB but for computers. This field has instilled in me the importance of thinking across cultural boundaries, while deepening my respect for the cultures that exist at this moment.
Teaching conversation with conversation, Iʼm here to help you discover the joy and excitement of fluid, spontaneous communication. Letʼs live life unscripted!
