Hello. I lived in Tokunoshima Japan for 10 years and taught English, dance and yoga there. My family moved back to the U.S. in July 2012. My husband is Japanese and I have 2 boys ages 13 and 15. I enjoy teaching English and communicating in Japanese.
My name is Collette and I have been teaching ESL for 3 years; 2 years in the United States and 1 year in the People’s Republic of China where my students were children ages 5-13 and adults. I enjoy teaching both children and adults. I graduated from the University of San Francisco and have spent most of my life in California. I enjoy movies, computer games and most of all people. I have chosen ESL because I truly believe that if you find a job you love you will never work another day in your life. So, if you see me at BYB I am there having a GREAT TIME because I am doing something I LOVE.
My background is in User Experience Design and Development, a field at the crossroads of rich media design and information science, where the goal is to facilitate seamless interaction between people and machines—like BYB but for computers. This field has instilled in me the importance of thinking across cultural boundaries, while deepening my respect for the cultures that exist at this moment.
Teaching conversation with conversation, Iʼm here to help you discover the joy and excitement of fluid, spontaneous communication. Letʼs live life unscripted!

I received my CELTA English teaching certificate when I was still studying in college, and taught my first classes to students from Japan, India, France, Ukraine, Russia, the Philippines, Mexico, and Taiwan. My passions in life are learning languages and practicing Muay Thai kickboxing. I have studied Japanese for many years and have practiced martial arts for longer than that, and have even lived in Japan before to study Japanese and practice Muay Thai. My current goal (other than to teach English) is to hopefully attend graduate school for my MA in Linguistics.
